18/02/14   Photo a Day   Magic

A tough subject today and it's taken me nearly all day to think of something but as I was talking to my friend Judy it came to me-the reason being that her father worked at Disneyland and she has many fond memories of visiting there.

16/02/14  Photo a Day   Create

I must look out this UFO and finish it, the design was from the fabric designer ( can't remember who) and of course the fabric is all about Clarice Cliff pottery. And that is all about memories as I had a couple of old Aunts when I was a child who used their dinner set like this all the time.

Hexies and POTC

For those non-believers this means hexagons and patchwork of the crosses, I started this hexagon quilt  last July and the POTC is a new project, why? because I can! I sew one project one day and then the other I haven't used my machine much lately.

When I went to the Sydney Quilt Show last year I really liked a few of the hexagon quilts using civil war reproduction fabrics so I started yet another hexie project. I didn't have to buy any fabric as I have a huge collection of them.

Patchwork of the crosses using two different Moda ranges that obviously like each other , again I did not buy any fabric just went shopping in my stash. I am using the inklingo method here not paper piecing.

15/02/14  Photo a Day   My choice of drink

Whilst I sit and sew I drink Coke Zero  or filtered water.

2/02/14 Photo a Day  Favourite

This is my favourite photo of two favourite people, my mother Sheila Maura Doyle and her mother Catherine Helena Doyle taken by a street photographer in Sydney during the wars years. They both look so young in this photo and indeed they were young Mum in her early twenties and Nanny in her early forties.

This photo of Mum with her older brother George Doyle was the last time they were together, Mum died in March 2001 and George died on Anzac Day 2011

Two of George's daughters Therese on the left and Mary at Mum's place

And whilst I'm showing some family pics here's one I took of Mum and her younger sister Kathleen at the Daffodil Festival at Oberon NSW in September 1996.
Aunty Kath is the last surviving Doyle sibling and will be 88 later this month

1/02/14   Photo a Day   You

This is not a very clear photo but it is the only one in existence of me (aged about 3 in 1951) and Dad's brother Ewin and his wife Stella. They moved to Brisbane not long after this photo was taken and I didn't see them again until 1960 when I was on holidays with family friends.I never saw Uncle Ewin again and he died I think in the 70's, however Louise and I met up with Aunty Stella in Brisbane in the late 90's.
