30/09/14  Photo a Day   Where I'm from

This is the tram that used to run from Neutral Bay Wharf up the hill to Neutral Bay Junction , I caught this tram to school every morning as we lived near the Wharf and  Neutral Bay School was near the Junction. By the time the trams were finished I was walking to school I think in the late 1950's. I lived in Neutral Bay until I was 14 years old.

Monday Patchwork girls

This group of friends meet on Mondays sometimes we sew but more often than not we chat, exchange ideas, read magazines and of course eat and talk food as well as patchwork. We take turns cooking lunch and yesterday Joy made a lovely salad with Maple poached pears and walnuts,Chicken, tomato, avocado, cucumber and salad greens etc.
For dessert we had strawberries marinated in Balsamic vinegar  served with cream and custard.

It was a beautiful sunny spring day in Bathurst and were able to sit outside for the first time in months , I enjoyed it so much three of us are having a rerun today to catch up on some work but also to sit in the sun and enjoy the warmth.

7/09/14   Photo a Day   Father

Iain Donald Hay McDougall

6/09/14  -16/09/2000

I love this photo of my father when he was about three years old, this photo would have been taken in Christchurch NZ as he lived in that city for the first ten years of his life with his Australian father and English mother.

He joined the AIF and fought in Egypt and Palestine in World War Two but was injured and repatriated home in 1942 and then became a Public Servant for the Meat Board and for a time was General Secretary of the Farmer's and Settler's Association of NSW. Then he turned his hand to Journalism for a time at the Sydney Morning Herald and then he started his own publishing firm which specialised in industrial journals.

All his life he wrote poetry and prose and many times his works were published in The Bulletin until that was taken over by Fairfax (?)

My parents divorced in January 1963 and from that date until his death I only saw him a few times although he was a prolific letter writer all his life.

3/09/14  Photo a Day   Buttons

This wall hanging  is a Christine Book design and is at least ten years old, the main reason I made it was because my mother had a button jar (old Fowlers Vacola Jar)  that all the grandchildren played with when they were young. Not one of them put a button in their mouth but they were supervised, they learnt colour, size, shape, counting  and how to sort with those buttons.
