Wedding

On this day in 1946 my parents Iain McDougall and Sheila Doyle married at St Stephens Church in Sydney pictured here with my Maternal Grandparents Kath and Ozzie Doyle.

Mum had only been officially discharged from the Army two weeks before this date, the marriage lasted just 14 years and produced three children Christine ,Louise and Andrew.

Since they have died I have been looking into the past history  and I realise these two people should never have married because they were both on the rebound, Mum's boyfriend had proposed to her before he went to the UK to fly in the Battle of Britain where he  died after his plane was shot down over the English Channel .My Father had been engaged to a woman and they apparently had a fight walking home over the Harbour Bridge and she threw her engagement ring into the water.
Dad and Joy reconnected about nine or ten years after Dad was married and not only carried on an affair he made her his Personal Assistant at his business. They married the week after the divorce and were only parted by her death ten years before Dad's death.
